sea lions, and walruses. This list of selected references is divided as

Because of their general interest and readability, some
of the technical books are also listed in other sections. The popular
category provides several references for young children and although technical
errors do occur in some of the texts, they are not of sufficient magnitude
to warrant exclusion. The publications cited are not available from the
Smithsonian Institution. They can be obtained from most large public libraries
or can be requested through an interlibrary loan. Many are currently in
print and can be ordered from local bookstores.
